As you might imagine, running treks in a dozen foreign countries can be challenging at times, like herding cats or trying to get a teenager to empty the kitchen trash can without constant prompting. The adventures you see listed on our website represent a LOT of logistics and legwork, and in certain areas, their availability relies entirely on the availability of lodging, government permits, political climate, and/or some other variable. This is why a trek that you may have had your eye on might *poof!* — suddenly disappear from our website without warning or a tearful goodbye.
This has recently been the case with both of our Italian itineraries — The Italian/Swiss Experience and Assisi to Rome. For reasons beyond our control (and, even, understanding some times), the hotels we relied on in these areas became unavailable for the foreseeable future, so we’ve had to discontinue those two itineraries until we can regroup.
Similar things have happened in other locations that we previously offered — like Patagonia and Iceland, for example — which forced us to discontinue those as well. (We are working to renew our itineraries in most of these places.)
So, why am I telling you all of this? Simple. If you see an adventure on our website that really trips your trigger, don’t wait to book it. As I’ve just pointed out, there’s no guarantee that itinerary will be there forever. As soon as you’ve booked and the minimum group size has been met, that trek is confirmed, even if it might go away as soon as your adventure is over. Much like a halfway decent Star Wars movie or $2 per gallon gasoline, that trek may never be seen again.
Remember, the easiest thing in the world to do is…nothing. But doing nothing never leads to a full life. Do something!
